What is LNAT? The Law National Aptitude Test(LNAT) is used by universities to help them select people for their undergraduate law courses.

The test doesn’t test your knowledge of law or any other subject. Instead, it helps universities assess your aptitude for the skills required to study law. The content of the Law National Aptitude Test is managed by the members of the Law National Aptitude Test Consortium. The test itself is administered by Pearson VUE, under contract to Law National Aptitude Test.

Test Format:

Section A: The first part is a computer-based multiple choice exam. You’ll be asked to read passages of text and answer questions that test your comprehension of them. Your scores from the multiple choice section of the test are checked by computer, and a mark out of 42 is created This is known as your LNAT score.

Section B: In the second part of the test you will be asked to write one essay from a list of three proposed subjects. This section is not marked by the test centre and does not contribute to your LNAT score, but it is your opportunity to show your ability to construct a compelling argument and reach a conclusion.

When do the LNAT?

You should aim to take the test as early in the academic year as possible for maximum choice of test venue and availability, & to meet admissions deadlines.You must take the test in the UCAS year in which you are applying to university. You can only sit the test once in the cycle (September to June) & results cannot be carried over from one year to the next.

Do I need to sit the test ?

You need to take the LNAT during the September 2018 to June 2019 test cycle if you are applying for 2019 entry(or deferred entry in 2020) to any of the following UK undergraduate law programs (listed by university and UCAS code).You must also read the information about deadline dates for the universities. As well as taking the LNAT, you need to apply for your chosen programs in the normal way.Sitting the LNAT does not constitute an application to any universities. What Is The BMAT?

The Biomedical Admissions Test is a 2 hour, pen and paper examination required for entry to a number of medical schools in the United Kingdom, Singapore and Netherlands as well as a selection of some Dentistry and Biomedical Science programmes. The test is divided into 3 sections, read below.

How do BMAT scores work?

In Section 1 and Section 2, each question is worth one mark. All questions are either multiple choice or a short answer & you mark your answers on a computer read answer sheet. Your raw score is then placed on a scale of 1 (low) to 9 (high) – it’s worth noting that there’s no pass or fail threshold. The scores follow a normal distribution with the average student scoring around 5.0. The best candidates score 6.0 & exceptional candidates score 7.0 or above.Section 3 is the essay section. This is marked by two examiners, who will give you an alphabetical score for your use of written English as well as a numerical score for the content of your essay. This is scored in the following ways:Section 3: Written English(scored A, C or E)

• Band A: Good use of English – clear, fluent, good use of grammar & vocabulary.
• Band C: Reasonably clear use of English – reasonably fluent, some errors.
• Band E: Rather weak use of English – not easy to follow, faulty grammar.

Section 3: Quality of Content (scored from 1 to 5)

• Score 1: the essay has some bearing on the question but does not address it fully.
• Score 2: addresses most of the question, but has significant elements of confusion.
• Score 3: reasonably well-argued, may have weakness in the argument.
• Score 4: good answer with few weaknesses, all aspects of the question are addressed.
• Score 5: excellent answer with no significant weaknesses.
